It’s always good to remember that days will form themselves as they will. I was all set for a day of school visits with CanCan, but I had one errand: get my tabs renewed. This was just going to take a few minutes, and then I was going to go over to the east side and visit several Montessori schools like I did the last two days. I have lots of cases in the back seat, and I’m finding that I love going in to schools with CanCan! I can tell that there’s a lot of energy in schools for me. It’s my Mary Poppins side.
Yesterday I went to four Montessori schools in Seattle. Everyone has been very cordial and willing to talk to this long haired lady with the many rings and bracelets, and look at her game…most of them are actually quite intrigued, and I expect sooner or later to be stocking one or several Montessori classrooms with CanCan.
But one of these schools, I swear it must be a front operation! Located in White Center, Seattle locals will know what I’m talking about, this school was located in a rundown building, with hole-perforated and scratched metal and glass door and lots of buttons and alarm set ups. The lady who came to the door was middle aged, dry blond hair, suspicious frown…I introduced myself and said I had a game to show her or someone, happy to make an appointment, yadayada…she was shaking her head, This is a Montessori school, we only use Montessori materials…Really? Because I’ve just talked to several Montess–And the person who buys isn’t here–Will they be here soon?–In a week…but we’re not interested–Are you sure? REALLY?—-Yes I’m sure, slam. WOW! crazy!
Anyway, so today I’m planning to go do more of my out of the blue dropping in on these centers of learning, I have to do my tabs….well, come to be reminded, I have some outstanding tickets which must be paid…so now I have to go downtown to the court house, and park with my butt end close to the car behind me so I don’t get a new ticket for my expired tabs…Luckily it’s a glorious sunny spring day…and luckily I have a cushion of cash, but there it goes to avert the immediate crisis. Which gets me thinking once again about the near impossibility of getting anything off the ground when you’re poor.
But I think of the people I admire most, most of them poor. How do they and we cope with these things? I guess we view them as challenges we can sharpen our teeth on. I decided I would proceed now and sell CanCan, one stop at a time. But not before considering photographing somebody else’s tabs and printing them out and sticking them on my beat-up Corolla’s license plate in order to save myself $250 for the moment…I did not do this, reasoning that license fraud is not a challenge I want to have to overcome in my crawl to the top…I choose to trust that I will sell enough games to cover this expense and all the others…eventually… and meanwhile I proceed with faith and sparkles… And expired tabs.
